Dick's Tips for Buying Firewood

Important things to look for and ask about when you're selecting firewood.

Questions To Ask When Purchasing Wood

  1. What species of wood is it?
  2. How long has it been seasoned?
  3. If it is dry – does the proprietor guarantee their product?
  4. Are you getting the measurement of wood you have paid for?
    • 16" length should measure 15-15½" long
    • 12" lenght should measure 11-13" long
    • IMPORTANT: If you get wood that is cut in random lengths, you are probably losing your measurement, and overpaying!
  5. How is the wood Split – Coarse or Fine? This is a very important question when purchasing your wood because you do not want wood that will not fit in your stove, harder to handle or need to be re-split!
